One of the first questions families ask is: if my child has already finished Grade 10 or 11, do they really have to repeat everything to earn an OSSD? The answer is no — thanks to PLAR.

What PLAR stands for
PLAR means Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition. It is the formal process Ontario schools use to award credits for learning you have already demonstrated elsewhere — your previous school reports, your local curricula, your completed grades.
How it works at EGOS
When you apply, we review your previous studies. If PLAR applies to your pathway, the evaluation converts your prior schooling directly into OSSD credits on your transcript. You then study only the remaining Grade 12 credits you actually need for university entry — see how the admission process works step by step.
What you will need
- Your previous report cards or transcripts
- Proof of identity and age
- Any documents our team asks for during your application — provided within 7 days of us reaching out
Why it saves a full year
Because the credits you already earned are recognised, you do not pay for or sit through courses you have already passed. Many students finish exactly the credits that matter for their university list — nothing more. The full course catalogue shows what Grade 12 credits typically remain.
PLAR is what turns a two-year plan into a one-year plan. It is assessed as part of your EGOS application, and our team guides you through every document — start on the online application form.
